The root terminology of this site is the very basic Japanese words used in Judo. Japanese consists of four writing systems: kanji, hiragana, katakana, and rōmaji. Most judoka are familiar with the rōmaji system as most Judo terms are written in it. However, since the translation of the terminology is not literal, it can clarify and be quite useful to know some of the terminology.
